SABOLAI means onion in Ga. If there’s something that connects the whole of West Africa – it’s onions. It’s the base of our food. It boosts the immune system. It can take over your whole body with its flavor. Sabolai is an ideology. It represents a DIY philosophy. It reminds us of the boys who sell onions on the street. Sabolai represents a resilient people– coming in movements from the North – to Accra, reinventing themselves each day. SABOLA! RADIO is a space where, every year, you get to be you. Here is where we hear the music we love – the music that inspires us and uplifts who we are.
Good music, art, food, fashion and fun. The move to Efua Sutherland Park allows us to promote public space and one of the few treasured parks available in Accra. This space will allow us to expand the show with our growing audience. The festival will now be even more accessible to the public because of its central location and loads of parking spaces available for vehicles.
This year, we are adding a food and fashion vendor marketplace plus a few artinstallations to create a park festival atmosphere. Saturday, December 20th features The Accra Cookout. From 2 – 10PM we are jamming live in the park with killer DJ sets (Steloo, DJ Keyzzz, Akwaaba Sound System, DJ Lalo and DJ K3V) and party hard performers.
Sunday, December 21st, we go to church with SABOLAI RADIO Live, a wicked day +nite concert with live music performances that will keep you in high spirits. Bring yourlawn mats and blankets, grab some food and drinks from the vendor stands, mingle with friends, take selfies at the art installations, buy cool handmade fashions at the design booths and boogie from afternoon to night.
